DFKI Bremen – Robotics Innovation Center, Bremen, Germany

At DFKI-Bremen I participated in the SeeGrip project. My work involved the development of an HTM model that performs object recognition using tactile sensor data and also on the development of an HTM model to recognise the grasp being performed by an operator wearing a sensorised data glove.

AI Lab, University of Zürich, Switzerland - 'A robot thinking ahead'

My project while at the AI Lab was called 'A robot thinking ahead' and it was part of the 'From locomotion to cognition' project. In my project, I developed a bio-inspired control architecture that allows a mobile robot to: (1) learn a model of its own action repertoire (a forward model); (2) learn a model of an object (prey) it is seeking; (3) combine the forward model and the prey model to seek the prey. *** Videos ***

My job consisted mainly in developing probabilistic models of the games to calculate the return percentage. To model these processes I used either Excel spreadsheets or C++, depending on which was more appropriate in each case. I also used Stochastic Dynamic Programming and Decision Theory to calculate the best estrategy for some games.

My role involved very different tasks from analysing data and producing documents to reporting the results of the analysis to doing the parameter review for the Short Term Conflict Alert (STCA) system. STCA alerts air traffic controllers to potential conflicts (mid-air collisions).
